Language Learning Through Comics
Share with students that they will be crafting a dialogue comic and recording the conversation to depict various everyday situations.
As a class, brainstorm everyday situations, such as:
- self-introductions,
- meeting a friend,
- giving directions, or
- ordering food.
Be sure to share examples of dialogue comics and recorded conversations in the target language to familiarize students with the format and provide inspiration.
Then, divide students into pairs or small groups. Provide student teams with scenarios or let them choose situations they'd like to work on.
Instruct students to outline their comic panels and dialogue script. Emphasize the use of relevant vocabulary and phrases for each situation. It may be helpful for students to complete a word wall activity before moving forward with their outline.
When students finish the outline, have them use a comic template to put their work together. Encourage students to illustrate each scene using the paint tools or stickers from the Image library. And, then add their dialog using the thought bubbles.
Instruct students to record themselves speaking the dialogue for each panel using the recording feature.
Allow groups to present their comics on screen and play their recorded dialogues. Encourage peers to follow along with the comics and provide feedback on language usage and pronunciation.
