Design Your Dream School
Grades: K-3
Building Brilliance:
Designing Your Dream School
Begin by reading aloud If I Built a School by Chris Van Dusen to your class. Students will love this story about Jack, who uses his wild imagination to describe how he would transform his plain old school into something special.
Then, engage students in a discussion about the story, focusing on Jack's imaginative ideas for his dream school. Ask students to share their favorite feature and why it appeals to them.
Assign the My Dream School template and explain to students that they will be designing their own dream schools.
Students can use the text tools to write descriptively about their dream school, and younger students can use the text dictation tool to express their imaginative ideas.
Once students have completed their descriptive writing, instruct them to use the paint tools and Image library to design their dream school.
