Animal Riddles

Animal Riddles
Kids love jokes and riddles! Combine this with their love of animals and have them create a series of riddles that others can use to learn about animals and practice inference.
Engage
Share riddles with your students like those in Susan Joyce's ABC Animal Riddles or Jack Prelutsky's If Not for the Cat. Let your students know that they will be creating their own animal riddles like the ones in these stories.
Have students choose an animal they are interested in learning about and then complete research to learn what it looks like, where it lives, and what it eats.
Have students capture their notes using a Cluster Organizer.
Create
Students can start their riddles from a new blank project in Wixie. Or, you can assign a two or four-page template to provide sentence starters and keep needed tech skills to a minimum.
Students can use the Image button to find a picture of their animal in the Stickers or Pics4Learning library or even one they have downloaded to their device. They can also use the paint tools to create their own illustration.
Share
Print riddles as table tents or greeting cards. Place on student desks to have students read and guess the answers to each riddle. Students can also present their riddle to other students, reading clues and facilitating discussion and guesses.
