Time Storytelling
Grades: 1, 2
Time Storytelling
Begin the lesson by discussing the importance of telling time and why it's a useful skill in everyday life.
Next, review the basics of reading an analog clock. Be sure to discuss the concepts of the hour and minute hands. Share samples of clocks with your students and ask them to identify the times they display.
Then, let students know that they will be creating a time story.
To get started, assign the Time Story activity.
Have students draw hands on the clock to show the time. Once the clock is set, have the students add labels to the clock, such as "7:30 AM" or "3:15 PM."
Instruct students to write a sentence or short paragraph describing the activity they have in mind. Encourage students to be creative and think about different activities that might be appropriate for the time they've chosen. Examples of sentence prompts for different times of the day could be:
- "At 7:30 AM, I wake up and have a delicious breakfast."
- "At 3:15 PM, I play in the park with my friends."
- "At 8:00 PM, I enjoy a bedtime story before going to sleep."
Then, ask students to draw or add images to show an activity that is appropriate for that time of day.
Students can use the microphone to narrate their time story.
Once students have completed their time stories, have them share their projects with the class. Each student can present their clock, sentence, and illustration.
