Klimt-inspired Tree of Life
Grades: 3-8
Create a Klimt-Inspired Tree of Life
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian artist. Inspired by Byzantine mosaics, many of Klimt's paintings include bright colors, symbols, and gold.
One of Klimt's most famous paintings is The Tree of Life . Traditionally, the tree of life shows the connections between heaven, earth, and the underworld.
- What symbols can you find in the painting?
- What do you think they mean?
- How do the shapes and repetition make you feel?
After exploring Klimt's work, assign the Klimt template.
Ask students to use the Eraser tool to scratch a tree into the canvas. Encourage them to use repetition in their design.
